Schaefer Charter School will be developing a project-based learning approach focused on building community, promoting the understanding of sustainability and encouraging stewardship.
Student will develop an appreciation of nature and build a connection to the food they eat while implementing critical thinking and problem solving skills. While designing, building, planting and maintaining the raised beds, students will apply real life math and science skills. A stronger school community will be built as older students lead younger students through various garden-centered activities.

- An established native plants “Schoolyard Habitat”
- An established “Monarch Waystation” butterfly garden
- A designated area for raised bed gardening
- A designated worm composting area
- Project Based Learning
- Peer Assisted Learning
- Integrated hands on Math, Science, Health, and Social Studies curriculum
